SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, is seeking a Digital Library Client Services Coordinator to oversee subscriber relations activities including the support of new and renewing subscribers, SPIE’s sales staff, and SPIE’s worldwide sales agent network.


Description of duties

The Digital Library Client Services Coordinator is responsible for subscriber relations, account set-up and communications, license preparation, order management, and training/mentoring other SPIE staff. In addition, the position requires working with and communicating effectively with SPIE’s sales staff and international agents.

The position requires knowledge about the SPIE Digital Library, ranging from platform features and functionality to product options and pricing to agent cultural differences and behaviors based on their geographical region. Knowledge about the academic library market is also critical.


Primary responsibilities include:


  • Provide both customer and sales agent support.
  • Manage the subscription and renewal process including account set-up, maintenance, and communication.
  • Prepare, research as necessary, and deliver reports to subscribers, agents, and SPIE internal staff as required.
  • Manage and maintain departmental procedures documents.
  • Provide marketing materials to customers and agents, coordinate online training, and distribute reports.
  • Work with the Digital Library staff to brainstorm new ways to improve the Digital Library offerings.
  • Coordinate subscriber events such as receptions, trade show activities, and sponsorships.
  • Occasional travel to both SPIE and library conferences is required.



  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in customer services, sales and marketing, or library relations
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing or communications, library and information science, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Prefer experience in book, journal and/or database publishing or alternatively experience in service to the library market.

Compensation includes: Competitive salary, commission on new sales, annual discretionary bonus, defined contribution retirement plan with additional company match, and paid-time-off plan beginning at 31 days per year.
